Showcasing NYC Talent at Industry Night

As of now it is less than one week before my first presentation of EXP's Industry Night Showcase, and I hope my grey hairs don't pop up early. Amongst my quest to really see who and what defines the entertainment industry today an experimental piece started to form in my brain, which is usually how my brain operates with dance. The question I started to ask anyone is "What do you think about the entertainment industry, specifically music and dance?", followed by, "What is missing?". My personal research kept growing and I kept receiving similar responses. The most mind connective response came from a sound engineer, DeShawn Jenkins. DeShawn exclaimed that the vibrations from sound effect water molecules; and if the molecules change their form then imagine how we as humans are being changed at a molecular level. How does the music we listen to today effect is in the moment, week, or lifetime?

So with this information and my further curiosities I wanted to create an evening filled with NYC talent surrounding the question with Dance! When I get asked "Oh what show are you performing in?", I say "actually I am the one producing it and presenting old and new choreographic works." (My hats off to those who have curated a show before me) This is an exciting endeavor that Entertainment X Primary has started to feature choreographic works by Susan Toni, Tumi Nkomo, Sebastian Jermey, and myself Sara "Primary" Lieck. Okay enough additional thoughts, here is what Industry Night is about!

Industry Night Showcase Event Description

Entertainment X Primary wants to ask the question: What is missing in entertainment today? Historically, the entertainment industry reflects humanities’ values and emotions; so how is it doing? Our Industry Night will begin to dismantle the outdated rules and mindsets that currently dominate entertainment by opening a candid, energetic dialogue through the power of dance! Attendees and performers alike will be navigated through the evening by our relentless MC, the one and only Jessie James who will leave you inspired and energized to enact real change and take on what tomorrow begins.

Our passion for the future is self-evident in Founder and Creative Producer, Sara “Primary” Lieck, whose unique style, Contemporary Fusion, blends the hip-hop technique with contemporary ballet’s athletic aestheticism.

The evening will be a selection of thoughtful, athletic and abstract works from a variety of dancers and choreographers. Following the show, there will be a reception in which presenters and attendees can mix, mingle, vibe and discuss changes the industry requires moving forward. Make sure you come out for this powerful evening, and make a statement about your dedication to the entertainment industry!
